Summer in Poundbury 2024

This summer Poundbury was host a to variety of vibrant community events which entertained local residents and brought visitors to the area. There were events for all ages with many hosted on the Great Field and in the squares around Poundbury. With a growing number of exhibitions in the Jubilee Hall this year, Poundbury is making itself known as a destination for artists. Below are just some of the events which took place over the summer.

Art at The Duchess

On Saturday 6 July, a summer arts fair was held at the Duchess of Cornwall Inn, organised by Art at the Duchess. The group also held a dinner and silent auction on the 11 July. Both events raised a total of around £3,000 for the Lantern Trust charity.

Dorset Food and Arts Festival

On 3 August, the Dorset Food and Arts Festival, held on the Great Field, showcased local food, drink, art, craft and music. Over 65 stalls provided an ‘avenue’ curving across the field. More than 1,700 people attended, making this the busiest year since Covid.

Art in the Sunflowers

During August, Maiden Castle Farm hosted their fourth annual sunflower trail, fundraising for the Critical Care Appeal at Dorset County Hospital. This year, Art in Poundbury  organised a vibrant open-air painting competition attended by over 90 artists, with prizes in enthusiast, established and young artist categories.

Rod Kay’s Affordable Art Exhibition

On 22-25 August the Jubilee Hall hosted an affordable exhibition and fundraising sale of professional artist Rod Kay’s work. The exhibition was curated by Rod’s family, following his sudden death last year. Sales and raffle tickets from the event raised over £6,000 which was shared among 9 local charities.
