Sixth national award for Steve

Poundbury builder CG Fry & Son is celebrating another top national accolade after site manager Steve Walker scooped an NHBC Pride in the Job Award.

Steve was judged Supreme Award Winner in the Medium Builder Category for his work on Poundbury’s Northern Quadrant. It is the sixth time Steve has won a Supreme Award in the Pride in the Job Awards. He has been a Supreme runner-up three times and has won the regional award 10 times.

Now in their 42nd year, the Awards are highly regarded as a prestigious benchmark within the industry and only go to those who have achieved the very highest standards in house building. They aim to consistently drive construction quality and standards of building and are run by the National House Building Council, the UK’s leading independent provider of warranty and insurance for new homes.

Judging for the 2022 awards began in July of 2021 which saw judges travel to hundreds of sites in their task to select a handful of finalists from each region. Site managers are assessed across the six key areas of consistency: attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawing and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.

From a field of more than 8,000 site managers, Steve went on from the regional heats to the national competition, receiving his award at a prestigious event in London in January.

Philip Fry, MD of CG Fry & Son said: “We’re delighted to see Steve scoop his sixth Supreme Award. It speaks volumes for the quality of work that he and his team continue to deliver in Poundbury, and exemplifies CG Fry & Son’s commitment to creating exceptional homes.”

Commenting on the Awards, NHBC Chief Executive Steve Wood said: “At NHBC we believe that the calibre of the site manager and the way they inspire their site team has the greatest influence on the quality of the finished home. By promoting friendly rivalry, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence, Pride in the Job supports the delivery of homes of the highest quality.

“Congratulations to all the 2022 Pride in the Job Award winners. The role of the site manager is more demanding than ever, with new methods of construction, new technologies and an increased pace of regulatory change. They are an inspiration to us all and should be very proud of the quality of new homes they are creating.”
