Duchy of Cornwall

Following the very successful ‘It’s Up to Us’ display in the springtime of 2022, Art in Poundbury returned to the Jubilee Hall in Queen Mother Square with a second exhibition entitled ‘Making Our Mark’.

‘Making our Mark’ proved to be extremely popular and delighted over 2,000 visitors during its nine days of opening in December.

“Such a beautiful and confident exhibition!” – Visitor comment

The Art in Poundbury team aimed to involve all parts of the community, including schools, the assisted living community and local business sponsors. The result was a visual community feast!

“Superb eclectic collection of work. Beautiful!” – Visitor comment

Paintings of all genres and sizes sat alongside a huge variety of creative mediums from sculpture to silver and glass to ceramics, textiles and more. Artists, exhibiting work, were also on hand at various times throughout the exhibition to discuss their creative processes.

David Atkins a renowned artist, based in Dorchester, won the Visitors Choice vote and was presented with a delicious Duchy hamper of Dorset produce.

“Magnificent! What a diverse display of talent. More exhibitions please!” – Visitor Comment

Those visiting the exhibition also had opportunity to contribute creatively by making an origami heart to add to a Christmas tree which was then located in Dorchester Community Church for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to visitor participation this community event raised £1500 for the food bank run from the church.

With thanks to the Art in Poundbury team (Judy Tate, Symone Hutchings, Pam Philip, David Kingman, Neeta Wilson and Jane Norman – all Poundbury  residents) who aimed high, literally and metaphorically, in order for ‘Making our Mark’ to happen.
